American-Style
Social Ballroom Program

This series of classes is where you will learn the true fundamentals of partner dancing, and work on becoming the best dancer you can be as you progress through the program from Beginning to Intermediate to Advanced. You will learn Waltz and Foxtrot steps recognized around the world and can be danced to myriad songs, many of which you may already know.

Beginning Level ~ "Good Social Basic"

1-Session (5 Weeks)

For students who have never done partner dancing, or have been dancing 6 months or less.

Provides the foundations of partner dancing to the absolute beginner: dance hold, leading & following, musicality, and confidence, through American-Style Waltz and Foxtrot.

This class is designed to be repeated as many times as needed before progressing to the next level.

Students are ready to continue to the next level when they are able to progress around the floor in time to the music, while showing a basic understanding of the dance hold and foot positions.

(Please consult your instructor when you are ready to move from the "Beginning" level into "Beginning / Intermediate".)

Beginning / Intermediate Level

2-Sessions (10 Weeks)

For students who have taken the "Beginning" level, or who have completed equivalent material through private lessons or other means.

Helps the beginning social dancer develop a stronger and more consistent skillset through the addition of new patterns.

Gain a better understanding of rise & fall, along with a stronger and more consistent dance hold, while strengthening patterns and foot positions in American-Style Waltz and Foxtrot.

There will be a stronger emphasis on leading & following, connection, technique and styling as you progress through this level.

Students will be ready to progress to the next level when they are able to demonstrate a more consistent dance frame and strong comfort level with the leading & following aspects of American-Style Waltz and Foxtrot.

(Please consult your instructor when you are ready to move from the "Beginning / Intermediate" level into the "Intermediate" level.)

Intermediate Level

5-Sessions (25 Weeks)

For students who have taken the "Beginning / Intermediate" level, or have completed equivalent material through private lessons or other means.

Brings the intermediate social dancer strength in movement, poise, and leading & following. Gain a better understanding of the technique & styling characteristics specific to each dance. Improve your rise & fall, and your connection to your partner & the music. Learning proper alignment for each figure and add exciting new patterns.

Students will be ready to progress from Intermediate to Advanced when they are able to demonstrate a better use of rise & fall, a more obvious sway and good footwork.

(Please consult your instructor when you are ready to move from the "Intermediate" level into "Advanced".)

Advanced Level

5-Sessions (25 Weeks)

For students who have completed the material presented in all prior levels, and who have instructor approval to enroll.

Provides the intermediate social dancer confidence and strength of movement by building upon the technique and figures studied in prior levels. Both the leader & follower will learn how to play a bigger part in creating a good picture for the couple through consistent body poise and connection with the partner. As part of the process, students will start to feel more comfortable in demonstrating their progress to others.

As students progress through the advanced level classes, they are able to demonstrate more apparent body flight when moving across the floor, plus a stronger swing from foot to foot, while maintaining an upright body position and good connection with the partner -- even though the couple may move into an open hold.

Silver-Level

Typically 4 to 6-Sessions (20 to 30 Weeks)

For advanced social dancers who have completed all prior levels and are able to maintain poise, fluidity, and a consistent connection with partner and music, while demonstrating a strong understanding of the technique & styling characteristics specific to American-Style Waltz & Foxtrot.

Introduces dancers to more advanced figures and techniques to acquire a greater level of grace, fluidity and strength, while improving the quality of control, poise and styling. There will be a specific focus on improving leg & body actions, connection with partner, and musicality.

* * Please consult your instructor before enrolling in any "Silver" level classes.
